I followed silently behind you
down the path of life
You knew that I was there
And you kept a patient stride
I listened as You spoke to me
Words filling up my heart
Promises of Your love forever
And warnings of the dark
Something caught my eye one day
And I stopped to take a look
You seemed as though you didn't mind
And began reading from your book
Missing you I returned to find
You sitting in the same place
I knew I made the right decision
As you held me in a warm embrace
Walking down the path once more
Hanging on your every word
I had to stop this time
To check out something I had heard
I ran from You and the path
Refusing to look back
I was determined to do this on my own
And find what I thought You lacked
I found more then I bargained for
There was trouble around every bend
Heartaches and tears and much worse
I found myself without You friend
I hid along side the path
Watching you from a distance
You were talking like I never left
Your words hitting my heart in an instant
I hear You telling me
Come back where I belong
That You forever love me
Doesn't matter what I've done wrong
I don't understand I scream
Why you waste your time with me
I don't know what you want
Or why you won't leave me be
I hear you calling my name
Feel you tugging at my heart
Why do you bother with me
When it was I who forced us apart
You turn and walk away from me
With a wave to come along
as I walk behind you speak to me
Your voice gentle - your words strong:
"For all that you can do to you
The self punishments that you give
The worse thing you can put you through
Is pretending I don't live
Take My hand and follow Me
Open your heart once more
You can't live you're life alone child
For there is much left in store
You're troubles are very few
Though they may seem immense
There is nothing that I can't solve for you
If you ask with an Amen
You are no waste of time My child
As you will grow to see
All My children are important
And very much a part of Me
I love each and everyone of you
That's the way I am
I sacrificed My life for you
And I'd gladly do it again"
So here I am back on the path
Walking once more by Your side
Loving You, living my life for You
Letting You be my Guide
